Notes from the Meeting to discuss local relations – 17th April 2008, The Radlett Centre, 1 Aldenham Avenue, Radlett, Herts.
Rabbi Abel, Marion Bulkan, Alan Callow, Anne Denham, Revd Robert Fletcher, Rabbi Freedman, Borough Councillor John Graham, Christine O’Donoghue, Bob Ogden, Rob Reith, County Councillor H.M. Saunders, Norman Sofier, Fiona Turner, Cllr Elizabeth Wackrow, and Robert Wiltshire.
Councillor R. Worthy opened the meeting by introducing those present to the new Clerk, Peter Evans. He also apologised to those present for the fact that the letter inviting them to the meeting and the agenda sent out had different times on them.
These had been previously circulated. Joan Golds name was added to the list of those present, and the word ‘at’ replaced ‘organised by’ on the line commencing ‘The Sticky Bun concert’.
With these amendments made, the minutes were then signed by Councillor R Worthy as a true record of that meeting.
The Clerk reported that there had been very little response to the invitations sent out to the youth leaders of the faith organizations, in fact there had been just two responses.
A primary schools concert in a marquee at Christchurch has been agreed in principle for probably the end of September/beginning of October.
Revd Hogg introduced this item, he actually wanted a Civic Service, where people are invited to celebrate the work of those who volunteered and carried out work within the parish. He offered to organize the event through the Churches Together group.
He felt that Christ Church was probably the largest church in the parish, and could therefore accommodate all the people that may attend. All faiths could be included in the service, which would follow a similar format to that of the Remembrance Day Service.
There were some concerns raised regarding the use of the church, so other venues were considered.
It was agreed
Cllr Worthy reported that he felt that these meetings were a step towards better relationships. Some items for note were reported;
The planning application on the Utd Synagogue Building, hopefully a solution to this would be found soon.
It was reported that an exciting project involving many community partnerships would be launched soon. This project was aimed at reducing the problems caused by teenagers on motorbikes racing around the parish. It is hoped to provide a facility where they could be taught how to ride properly.
As there was currently a judicial review regarding the ‘sacred cow’ incident, a question was asked as to if this had affected relationships with the Harry Krishna’s. It was reported that although they were not at this meeting, they had been invited and were still involved in the Radlett Festival.
There was a long discussion regarding provisions for the youth in the parish. As the previous attempt to start a Youth Council had not materialised, it was decided to try a different approach.
So the following actions were agreed;
23rd October 2008 at 8pm.
Closure 9.00pm
