  1. Update from recent meetings

It had been agreed at a previous meeting not to attempt to hold a concert and fair on
two consecutive days as it was deemed to be too much work for a small organisation.  Therefore, the Radlett Festival Committee would organise a fair only to be held on the Sunday.

David Crofts, on behalf of Radlett Music Club, informed the meeting that he was prepared to organise a musical evening to complete the Carnival weekend.

Following discussion, it was agreed to hold the Carnival weekend on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June 2006.

David Crofts reported that he had contacted all of those who had performed at the Lakeside Concert during the Radlett Festival 2004 and they were prepared to perform
again on the same basis as before.  He hoped that John Apthorp would again be prepared to host the event at his home in Newlands Avenue.  Stuart Nagler would be asked to approach Mr Apthorp.

The Saturday evening concert would be organised by it’s own committee and it was suggested that the following people should be approached to join;   David Crofts, Cilla Martin, Di Turner, Nigel Rogers and Jane Williams.

The theme for this year’s carnival would be Magic.  It was noted that Harry Potter film was currently being filmed at Leavesden and Allan Beaver offered to contact the film crew for memorabilia, participation etc.  Gauri offered people who could display an Indian Rope trick.

It was intended that the theme was given a much higher profile than in previous years.  Ray suggested involving schools with a poster competition.

Other members of the committee had wished to see a theme that included the world cup football and/or England.  It was felt that this could also be included in the programme.

  1. ‘Who does What’

The Chairman read a list of items that required volunteers:-

  • Stalls                      - Sylvia, other volunteers required
  • Tickets                   - no volunteers
  • Publicity                 - Caroline and Ray
  • Book Activities     - no volunteers
  • Finance                  - Roger (on holiday during May 2006)

Caroline and Ray would produce a grid showing time scales.  The programme would be full colour, contact would be made with Chiltern Radio and car banners were suggested.

Arena Events, Stage Manager and Compere(s)  Medivet would organise a dog show, Ron, Simon and Fiona Turner would be in charge of organising scout and guide events.  Philip Eastburn had agreed to act as stage manager, Simon Tompkins and hopefully Dom Ingram would act as comperes.

Graham asked if the entrance to Phillimore Recreation Ground could be made to look more appealing and suggested an arch could be made.  He added that given time constraints perhaps if not erected for this year then maybe for 2007.

Gauri agreed to supply the necessary sound equipment as in previous years.

  1. Budget and Finance

Roger continued to express concern over the way the finances would be dealt with and was wary of the implications if a charity were to be set up and the VAT implications if the committee remained a sub committee of the Parish Council.

Following discussion it was agreed to remain under the auspices of the Parish Council.

  1. Date of next meeting

The next meeting would be held on Thursday 9 February at 7.30 pm.  Additional meetings would be held on Thursday 16 March and Monday 20 April 2006.

Closure 9.45pm
