PARISH COUNCIL
Minutes of the meeting of the CARNIVAL REVIVAL SUB
COMMITTEE held at 7.30 pm on Thursday
18 December 2003 in Meeting Room 2, The Radlett Centre, Aldenham
Avenue, Radlett.
Present:
Prof
A Beaver (Radlett Rotary Club)
Councillor Mrs V Charrett (Aldenham Parish Council)
Mrs Sylvia Cohen (Radlett Rotary Club)
Mr Stuart Nagler (Radlett Rotary Club)
In attendance:
Mrs
J Adams (Deputy Clerk)
1. Apologies for absence
Apologies were received from Mr Nick Hoenig of the Round Table.
2. Introduction
It was understood
that thoughts to revive the Carnival had been made jointly by AB
and VC. AB suggested that Rotary could supply officers as necessary e.g.
Treasurer and Secretary. Other Members felt that representatives
from other organisations should be included in a working party.
3. Election of Chairman
Councillor Mrs Charrett was unanimously voted as Chairman.
4. Possible dates for Carnival
A possible date was put forward as Sunday 13 June 2004 with an
alternative suggestion being Sunday 11 July 2004. Other events that required
dates checking to avoid clashing were *Shenley Fete, *Radlett Horticultural
Society Garden Walkabout and Fairfield School Fair.
5. Venue
Following discussion it was felt that the best possible venue
was Phillimore Recreation Ground as the church field was likely to be a construction
site in the summer.
6. What to include/exclude
- Members
were against having a street parade.
- A weekend
of music was suggested possibly using the home of Mr John Apthorp
for
Saturday evening entertainment or Phillimore Recreation Ground.
- The
event should be themed possibly medieval.
- Everyone
should be involved to bring the community together.
- Possible
inclusion of donkey rides, Cart and Bullock (Hare Krishna), Noddy
Train (Mill Hill Round Table).
- Members suggested
that the event be called the Radlett Festival.
- SN suggested
that a copy of the Bushey Festival programme be obtained from
Maureen Tomlinson of Bushey Mill Lane, Bushey.
- Pre-selling
tickets would be crucial – local
groups to be involved. Publicise event as soon as possible through
Unison,
Around Radlett, Website etc.
